Clinical focus areas
The vagus nerve cannot shift the body toward rest-and-digest while the nervous system is running short on inhibitory tone and long on catecholamines. Vagus Nerve Reset supplies the cofactors behind each step of that shift.*
GABA production & balance
-
Vitamin B6 (P-5-P) 100 mg: required cofactor for glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD65/67), the enzyme that converts excitatory glutamate into calming GABA.*
-
Lemon Balm 400 mg: rosmarinic acid helps preserve GABA by moderating its breakdown through GABA-transaminase.*
-
L-Taurine 200 mg: acts at GABA-A and glycine receptors to support inhibitory tone and membrane stability.*
-
NAC 400 mg: supports glutamate balance through the cystine–glutamate exchanger.*
Methylation & one-carbon support
-
5-MTHF 530 mcg DFE + B12 (hydroxocobalamin) 2,000 mcg: drive methionine synthase to recycle homocysteine into SAMe, the body's universal methyl donor.*
-
Riboflavin-5-Phosphate 50 mg: FAD cofactor that stabilizes the MTHFR enzyme.*
-
DMG 100 mg + Choline 200 mg: feed the betaine (BHMT) pathway, a second route to remethylation.*
-
Niacin 78 mg NE + Inositol Hexanicotinate 100 mg: act as a methyl buffer, helping keep methyl-group flow balanced in methylation-sensitive patients.*
Catecholamine clearance
-
COMT support: the methylation nutrients above supply the SAMe COMT uses to inactivate dopamine, norepinephrine, and epinephrine.*
-
Riboflavin (FAD): cofactor for MAO-A, the second major catecholamine-clearing enzyme.*
-
Niacin (NAD+): fuels aldehyde dehydrogenase, clearing the reactive aldehydes (DOPAL, DOPEGAL) formed when MAO breaks down catecholamines.*
-
Copper (Albion®) 2 mg: cofactor for dopamine β-hydroxylase and ceruloplasmin, supporting balanced dopamine/norepinephrine handling.*
Amygdala & stress-response balance
-
Saffron 300 mg: crocin and safranal studied for positive mood, emotional balance, and healthy stress reactivity.*
-
Lithium (as orotate): trace lithium supports neuroprotective signaling (GSK-3β, BDNF) linked to emotional resilience.*
-
Inhibitory foundation: restoring GABA tone helps the brain's threat-appraisal centers (amygdala, insula) shift out of alarm mode.*
Acetylcholine & vagal tone
-
Choline 200 mg: direct substrate for acetylcholine, the primary neurotransmitter of vagal (parasympathetic) signaling.*
-
Pantothenic Acid 75 mg + Thiamin 90 mg: build coenzyme A and run pyruvate dehydrogenase to make acetyl-CoA, the acetyl donor for acetylcholine; thiamin also supports normal autonomic nerve conduction.*
Histamine clearance pathways
-
Copper + P-5-P: support diamine oxidase (DAO), which degrades extracellular histamine.*
-
Methyl donors (SAMe): supply histamine N-methyltransferase (HNMT) for intracellular histamine clearance.*
Mitochondrial energy & redox defense
-
B1 · B2 · B3 · B5: form TPP, FAD/FMN, NAD, and CoA to power ATP production in nerve tissue.*
-
NAC + Riboflavin: build and recycle glutathione. Manganese 3 mg: powers MnSOD, the mitochondria's primary superoxide defense.*
-
Molybdenum 3,000 mcg: sulfite, xanthine, and aldehyde oxidase cofactor for sulfur and purine metabolism. Boron 3 mg: supports Mg, Ca, and vitamin D utilization.*
Where Vagus Nerve Reset fits: the reset sequence
Filled steps are addressed directly by this formula. Nerve-stimulation approaches work best with this biochemical foundation in place.*
01
Quiet
Ease excess sympathetic drive & catecholamine load*
02
Supply
Restore inhibitory (GABA) tone*
03
Prime
Set the table for acetylcholine & vagal output*
04
Stabilize
Support the gut & vagal afferent signaling*
Suggested use
As a dietary supplement, take 4 capsules daily, or as directed by your healthcare practitioner. May be divided as 2 capsules twice daily with meals.
Warnings & storage
If pregnant or nursing, consult your healthcare practitioner before taking this product. Color of this formula may vary due to natural ingredients. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dry place.
Practitioner notes
Active, pre-methylated forms throughout: 5-MTHF, P-5-P, R-5-P, hydroxocobalamin.
Niacin content provides a methyl buffer for patients who react to methylfolate alone.*
I got asked to build a formula
The only thing I could put in a bottle that addresses both halves of the story.
Methylation, with the exits open
Methylfolate, hydroxocobalamin, DMG and choline, with NAC and molybdenum keeping the sulfur road clear.
The GABA brake
P5P 100 mg, lemon balm, taurine (which works around a broken GAD), NAC and manganese.
Clearing catecholamines
Riboflavin-5-phosphate for MAO, the methyl cycle for COMT, plus B1, B5, B3, copper and manganese.
The amygdala directly
Lithium orotate at a nutrient dose, not a psychiatric dose, and saffron 300 mg.
Repletion
Thiamine, pantothenate, inositol hexanicotinate and boron for patients with long medication or alcohol histories.
The design goal: Move the patient out of hindbrain and back into frontal cortex, and restore the executive function that every psychological intervention requires.
The one thing to add: magnesium. Separately.
It isn't in this bottle because a therapeutic dose would consume the capsule. It gates the NMDA receptor, supports the methyl cycle and works with the lithium. Glycinate for most patients, threonate when the target is specifically central.
This product plus magnesium. Always.
At a glance: problem → ingredient
Point at any part of the story above and there is a line in this table that answers it.
The answer in the bottle
P5P 100 mg
Manganese 3 mg (glutamine synthetase)
NAC 400 mg (system xc− / mGluR2/3)
Taurine 200 mg (glycine / GABA-A)
Lemon balm 400 mg (GABA-T)
R5P 50 mg → FAD
Methyl cycle support
5-MTHF · hydroxo-B12 · DMG · choline
Molybdenum 3 mg (SUOX)
Molybdenum (aldehyde oxidase)
Copper 2 mg (Complex IV, DBH)
Lithium orotate · saffron 300 mg
NAC · taurine chloramine
Thiamine 90 mg · pantothenate · inositol hexanicotinate
Boron 3 mg
Magnesium (dosed separately)
The problem
Glutamate → GABA conversion failure (GAD)
Glutamate not cleared from the synapse
Synaptic glutamate release too high
Inhibitory tone with a broken GAD
GABA degraded too fast
Catecholamines not clearing (MAO)
Catecholamines not clearing (COMT)
Restricted methyl throughput
Sulfur / sulfite backup (the trap)
Acetaldehyde load, alcohol history
ATP for executive function
Amygdala threat drive
Inflammatory afferent load
Medication / alcohol depletion
Magnesium retention
Glutamate → GABA conversion failure (GAD)
Order of operations
Never run the cholinergic step first. Raising ACh in a glutamate-dominant system with no inhibitory counterweight produces agitation, cramping, GI urgency and worse sleep.
Chemistry first
Vagus Nerve Reset + magnesium. Establish the inhibitory floor.
Then the psychological work
Sarno, EMDR, trauma work, breath, meditation, HRV, into a nervous system that can now encode it.
Then the cholinergic build
VagusSync, the acetylcholine and neuropeptide cascade formula. In development. Not yet released.
Start with the chemistry
Vagus Nerve Reset plus magnesium, always. NAC can be added separately.
